Coaching Staff
Josh Blunt - Head Coach

Josh Blunt enters his third season as head coach at Lane Community College after going 22-20 and leading the Titans to a 3rd place finish last year. Coach Blunt comes to Lane from West Valley College in Saratoga, CA. While at West Valley, Coach Blunt achieved a total record of 167-75 which was the 5th most wins for a community college in the entire State of California. In 2008, he led the Vikings to a state best record of 40-10 and the school’s first ever Final Four appearance.
Prior to coaching at West Valley, Coach Blunt had a brief stop at Cabrillo College in Aptos, CA where he was the associate head coach. He was in charge of infielders and catchers as well as coaching 3rd base and running the Seahawk offense.
In 2003, Coach Blunt was an assistant coach at Sam Houston State, a Division I school in Huntsville, TX where he was in charge of catchers and hitters and assisted with recruiting.
From 1999-2002, Coach Blunt was an assistant coach at Florida powerhouse Okaloosa-Walton Junior College (now called Northwest Florida State) in Niceville, FL. His primary responsibilities were to handle the pitching staff and to manage recruiting. His 2001/2002 recruiting class had 14 players that went on to be drafted. During Coach Blunt’s three years at OWCC, the team won the conference and placed second.
Coach Blunt began his college coaching career in 1997 at North Florida Community College in Madison, FL where he was in charge of pitchers and catchers, as well as the recruiting coordinator. While at North Florida, the team achieved an overall record of 98-44. Coach Blunt’s successful recruiting efforts resulted in 20 Sentinel players receiving Division I scholarships.
Coach Blunt earned his Bachelor’s Degree in History at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and his Master’s degree in Kinesiology at Valdosta State University.
Coach Blunt resides in Eugene, OR with his wife Amanda Blunt.
Josh Hogan - Assistant Coach
2012- present
Josh Hogan joins the Titans staff and his primary responsibilities will be as the infield coach and serve as the 3rd base coach. Josh comes to Lane after serving as the graduate assistant coach for the Oregon Ducks. Last year as a Duck his responsibilities included: 1st base coach, positioning outfielders and infielders as well as assisting with the hitters. In the summer of 2012 Coach Hogan was the head coach of the Klamath Falls Gems where they finished tied for second in league and 30-28 overall. Prior to being with the Gems Hogan served as first base and infield coach for the Cowlitz Black Bears in both the summers of 2010 and 2011. Josh began his coaching career in 2010 as an assistant coach at Churchill High School.
As a player Hogan spent three years as an infielder with the Corvallis Knights, winning the WCL Championship in 2008 and playing in the WCL Championship series in 2009. Josh was named to the WCL All-Conference team all three years he played in Corvallis.
Hogan is a graduate of Churchill High School in Eugene, OR. He was a two-sport athlete, playing baseball for head coach Eric Hoberg and football for head coach Darrel Mehl. After his senior baseball season Hogan was named first team All-State and the Midwestern League Player of the Year. He helped the Lancers to three straight Midwestern League championships. He then played two years at Mt. Hood Community College, where he earned second team all-league as freshman and first team all-league as a sophomore. Hogan continued his playing career at Oregon in 2009 where he was voted by teammate’s best defensive player, best teammate and team captain.
This summer (2013), Hogan coached the Medford Rogues and lead them to a 2nd place finish with a record of 30-24
Jeff Lyle - Assistant Coach
2008-present
Assistant Coach Jeff Lyle is entering his sixth season with the Titan program and will return to the pitching duties after a year of coaching the outfielders. During the summer of 2012 Jeff was the pitching coach for the Klamath Gems. While under his tutelage the staff broke the all-time WCL strike out record by posting 407 staff punch outs while only walking 107. Prior to Lane, Lyle coached at Thurston High School in Eugene, Ore, and was an associate scout for the Atlanta Braves organization. A native of California, Lyle played at Merced Junior College and Hancock College before transferring to Fresno State where he finished his playing career. He also assists with Baseball Northwest Baseball and works with prospects for USA Baseball.
Brian Vogel - Assistant Coach
2012 - Present
Brian Vogel returns to his alma mater and joins the Titan coaching staff. His primary responsibility will be as the outfield coach and assistant in hitting. Brian played for local Sheldon High School and graduate in in 2001. Coach Vogel than continued his playing career at Lane Community College and played under Donny Harrel (now at the head coach at Seattle University). Vogel’s coaching career began at Eugene's Sheldon High School. Coach Vogel was the freshman and J.V. head coach at Sheldon from 2002-2004 and the varsity outfield coach from 2004-2009. Brian then returned as the head JV coach in 2011 & 2012 where he posted a 42-5 record over the past two seasons. He graduated from the U. of Oregon in 2006 with his degree in Psychology and Business. He is married to the former Brenda Kelley and has two children: Crystal his daughter is 7 and Bentley his son is 3 months.
Chuck Kearney - Assistant Coach
2013-Present
While wrestling at 177 as a senior at Oregon, Kearney placed fifth in the NCAA Championships while leading his team with a 34-8-1 record in 1988. He was honored that year as the team’s most valuable wrestler. His 34 victories tied him for sixth on Oregon’s all-time list for wins in a season. The mark now stands tied for seventh on the list.
The former Pac-10 champion accumulated 60 wins in two years at Oregon after competing his first two seasons at Oklahoma State. In 1985, Kearney finished third at the Big 8 Championships and was named a first-team freshman All-American.
Born in McMinnville, Ore., in 1964, the 1983 Sandy High graduate was a two-time state champion, a three-time state freestyle winner and a two-time Triple Crown winner with a record of 133-4. He was voted Oregon High School Wrestler of the Year as a senior and was a three-time regional champion and two-time MVP, as well as a three-time junior national freestyle finalist.
