Yakima Valley too much for Titans

SALEM — Ashley Smith had 28 points and 12 rebounds for Lane Community College in the Titans’ 87-65 women’s basketball loss to Yakima Valley on Tuesday in their opening game at the Chemeketa Holiday Tournament.

Andrea Anderson also had 10 points for Lane, which dropped to 8-2 on the season.

Yakima Valley was led by Desquise Hammick, who scored 25 points. Brittney Newcomb added 14 points and Alyiah Green scored 12 for the Yaks, who led 35-25 at halftime before erupting for 52 points in the second half.

The Titans will next play Lower Columbia today at 1 p.m.
