Lane Sweeps Pre-Season Crowns

The Lady Titans swept their fourth pre-season tournament championship Sunday with a 92-68 drubbing of host Chemeketa in their Holiday Classic.  Lane (14-0) used a balanced scoring attack with six players in double figures for the first time this year and ten of the eleven players who played scored.

Tournament MVP Kersey Wilcox (Prineville, OR.) led all scorers with 18 pts plus 8 assists.  Tori Mahaffie (Eugene, OR.) and Simone Thompson (Gardena, CA.) were next with15 pts., Renee Lucero (Stanwood, WA.) had 14 pts.  Megan Shields (Sherwood, OR), another All-Tournament selection, had 13 pts and Danielle Schmidt (Hillsboro, OR.) scored 10 pts.

The Titans had comfortable halftime lead 51-33 but within six minutes of the second half the Storm had cut the lead to eight points with a 15-5 run.  The Titans regrouped and by the twelve minute mark of the half had stretched the lead back to fifteen points.

Lane finished their preseason schedule undefeated for the first time since the 2005-2006 season, a season in which the Titans finished 33-1 and captured the NWAACC title.  They also averaged 89 points per game in their fourteen games while holding their opponents to 57 points per game, a whopping 32 point margin.

The Titans begin Southern Region play this coming Saturday, January 5th with a 2 pm contest versus the Mt. Hood Saints.
