LAKEWOOD, Wash. — The rematch of last year’s Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges women’s basketball championship game became no match in a hurry Sunday.

Defending champion Lane held runner-up Skagit Valley to 18 percent field-goal shooting in the first half en route to a 43-17 halftime lead and a 79-47 victory in the championship game of the Pierce Tournament.

Sarah Brolsma Whitfield was named tournament MVP after a game-high 21 points and 13 rebounds in the title game for the Titans, who improved to 6-0.

Lane’s Theresa Brown, who also made the all-tournament team, added 15 points and 12 rebounds, Tiffany Rich had 14 points off the bench for Lane, and MaKenzie Ficek had 13 points. Ho’okena Varde’s 11 points led Skagit Valley.
