Hunter powers Lane sweep

SALEM — Darrell Hunter hit a two-run home run in the opener, and Nick Phillips threw five shutout innings in his first start during the nightcap, leading the Lane Community College baseball team to a doubleheader sweep at Chemeketa Thursday.

Jordyn Van Atta had RBI double and scored on Hunter’s homer during the 4-2 victory in Game 1. Ryan Bender and Elliott Sherrell added RBI doubles in the 9-2 victory in Game 2.

Phillips, who led the NWAACC in saves last season, made his first start for Lane and allowed only one hit, with no walks. Skip Spencer was 2-for-3 with a double in Game 2 after earning the save in Game 1.
